Paraguay is the fourth largest destination importing Brazilian lemons
terça-feira, fevereiro 14, 2023
Paraguay receives 3.8 million tons of lemons from Brazil annually, a number that places it in fourth place in this ranking, behind only the Netherlands, which imports 102 million tons; United Kingdom, with 20 million; and Spain, with nine million. Behind Paraguay comes Russia, with 2.5 million tons of lemons imported from Brazil.
According to data released by the National Union of Federal Agricultural Tax Auditors (ANFFA Sindical), the export process to Paraguay is carried out at the border with the country, in Foz do Iguaçu, in a joint work of the federal agricultural tax auditors with professionals who perform similar functions in the neighboring country.
Much of the clientele of the Foz do Iguaçu Supply Center (Ceasa) is composed of Paraguayan consumers, since Paraguayan production does not meet domestic demand, or even due to the preference for the quality of Brazilian products over similar Paraguayans, demonstrating the relevance of Ceasa de Foz do Iguaçu, as a point of confluence and reception of products from different regions of Brazil. In total, 28,000 tons of products were exported from Brazil to Paraguay in 2022, according to Embrapa data. The volume of products exported to Paraguay may be even higher, because, according to Ordinance DRF / Foz do Iguaçu, this type of trade practiced below two thousand dollars suffers intervention only from the agencies responsible for the supervision and certification of the products of the vegetables.
The federal agricultural tax auditor (Affa), Adinan Galina, head of the international agricultural surveillance sector of the southern arch 2, in Foz do Iguaçu, explains the importance of this work carried out by the Affas on the site. "This work is of great importance for the supply of Paraguay. Our work in conjunction with them allows the products to arrive as soon as possible in Paraguay, ensuring food security and quality vegetables", he explains.
