Brazil's ethanol production expected to grow 5.6% in 2022, says USDA office in São Paulo

Brazil is expected to produce 31.66 billion liters of ethanol by 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) agricultural trade office in São Paulo.
The volume represents an increase of 5.6% compared to the revised number for 2021, of 29.98 billion liters. Fuel ethanol production is expected to grow 8.5% in the same comparison, to 28.42 billion liters.
The expected increase is related to the largest crushing of sugarcane in the 2022/23 crop, and considers that the sugar-energy mix will be in line with that of the previous season, the USDA said.
The firm also said that an expected increase in corn ethanol production is expected to contribute to the largest total volume.
The USDA estimates sugarcane crushing in Brazil in 2022/23 at 613 million tons, an increase of 6.4% over the previous cycle (576 million tons). In the South Central, processing is expected to increase 7% to 560 million tons, he said.
