Imagine if when you couldn't or weren't willing to work, you could send a robot instead? The Dynamic Machine Learning (DML) project, started in 2021, aims to develop an autonomous robot that can predict the production capacity of a tomato greenhouse: the Plantalyzer.
The goal is to detect self-learning for all tomato varieties. Wageningen researchers at Agro Food Robotics are developing a technique for reliably detecting tomatoes in greenhouse vines using an autonomous robot.
With the technology, producers will be able to estimate how many tomatoes can be harvested in the next period, with the highest possible accuracy to optimally meet market demand.
The team uses stereo cameras to determine the 3D position, or real-world position, of tomatoes in the greenhouse.
