Fertilizer discharge remains fast-paced in ports
sexta-feira, novembro 25, 2022
Even with a reduction in fertilizer imports by 30% by the end of 2022, paraná's ports maintain a high rate of product discharge. In the last two days only, the Fortenave Maritime Agency simultaneously served four ships loaded with fertilizers, two ships docked in the port of Paranaguá and two others at Ponta do Félix Port in Antonina.
In all, these vessels totaled the discharge of 107,236 tons of the intake, coming from Jordan, Nigeria, Egypt and China. In addition, by Tuesday afternoon (22/11), eight ships were waiting to unload the product in Paranaguá and Antonina, and around 12 are on their way to the ports of Paraná, according to information from the lineup of companies responsible for maritime agency.
The director of the company responsible for the maritime agency of the four vessels, Ismael Pires, explains that a number of factors contribute to the Port of Paranaguá continuing to be one of the largest importers of fertilizers in Brazil, including the activity of the maritime agent.
"Portos do Paraná invests in maritime and land infrastructure and ship productivity. On the other hand, we have in the ports of Paraná maritime agencies with great expertise and that support all the work between the parties involved in maritime transport. That is, between the shipowner, charterer, port authority and customs brokers", says Ismael.
Maritime agents are a connection between the ship and the ports, providing the authorities with all the necessary data for the completion of both the port and mooring of the ship and the release of the vessel, cargo and crew.
According to the director of Fortenave, Ismael Pires, even with the fertilizer market going through a moment of adjustment in inventories, the discharges continue because the country depends on the foreign product. "Brazil imports more than 80% of the fertilizers used in agribusiness. The Ports of Paraná are among the main gateways for fertilizers in the country, with 30% of the total", concludes Pires.
Fertilizer market
The country had an atypical year, with a high volume of fertilizer imports. The measure was to ensure sufficient supplies for the expansion of the planted area in the face of fears of scarcity because of the war between Ukraine and Russia, which is a major supplier.
By the end of the first half of the year, Brazil had imported about 19.2 million tons of fertilizers, 20% more than in the same period last year.
With the high volumes of the product in stock, in recent months, there has been a fall in the pace of imports of the insums. From October to December, the Union of Fertilizerand Corrective Agricultural Industry of Paraná (Sindiadubos) foresees a 30% reduction in product discharge. The prospects were presented in October, during a Symposium held in Curitiba.
