Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), popularly called gmos, still generate discussions, but evidence of their safety prevailed and reduced resistance to them. With much research on their safety and consumption of GM foods for nearly 30 years, without any adverse effect on human health or the environment, people began to feel confident in consuming them.

In agriculture, OGs are developed to create varieties that are more resistant to pests or diseases, tolerant to drought or with better nutritional quality, taking the DNA of organism A and inserting it into organism B.

There are many persuasive arguments in favour of the GMOs. There is no doubt that OGMs are safe and beneficial to us and to the environment. GMS have improved quality of life and even prolonged our lives. For example, many medicines, such as insulin, vaccines and others, are genetically modified, similar to GM varieties. Without these transgenic drugs many people would die.

The Brazilian Biosafety Law of 2005 established the legal framework that regulates and supervises modern biotechnology that is implemented in our country. With it only safe OGMs are allowed to be produced and used in Brazil.
