70% of Argentines collect data for decision making

"Production is increasingly efficient based on technological innovation and knowledge, and not on the extent of the land used", as stated by the Center for Agribusiness and Food of the Southern University (UA) after analyzing the data of the latest National Survey of Argentina Agricultural Producers that reveals how argentine producers are, how they think, how they buy, how they are informed and how they are financed.
The research shows that, currently, 73% of producers have machines that collect data while 70% use them for decision making, which represents an increase of 20% compared to the previous edition.
"Agricultural producers continue to bet on growth, despite the constant obstacles generated by the country's economic instability," the institution said. According to the Survey of the Needs of the Argentine Agricultural Producer (ENPA), presented on November 1 at the National Agro Conference, 42% of them work in their own fields. In 2017, 61% did so, at least in part, in leased fields, but today this percentage has dropped to 58%.
"The new business model is more capital intensive, generates value-added operations and products and implies integration with other actors in value chains," explains Bernardo Piazzardi, professor and researcher at Universidad Austral.
The work, carried out in conjunction with Purdue University (United States), involved 880 agricultural producers from the core area of Pampa Húmeda, including the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Córdoba and Entre Ríos, which were already part of the 2021 ENPA. And the area surveyed represents 76% of the national soybean production and 70% of corn.
Of this total of respondents, 90% are male, 48.8% have completed higher education and, on average, are 44 years old. On average, 41% expect to increase their area of exploration in 5 years, another 55% will keep the same as the 2020/21 campaign and 4% plan to cut it.
