Outbreaks of avian influenza in the U.S. and Europe favor Brazil
quinta-feira, outubro 20, 2022
Officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have admitted, according to Reuters news agency, that the country is approaching a record number of bird deaths from an outbreak of avian flu. This scenario, moreover, is similar to what occurs in Europe, which faces the largest epidemic ever reported on the continent, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
The problems faced by Americans and Europeans end up, however, benefiting the Brazilian market. Fernando Iglesias, an analyst at the consultancy Safras & Mercado, says that, however, exports of chicken meat are already being positively impacted. "Brazil has already managed to sell chicken meat very well in 2022. We're looking at a record high. We are boarding more than 400,000 tons per month," he said.
Iglesias' evaluation was recorded during participation in wednesday's edition (19) of the television news 'Mercado & Companhia'. His evaluation is in line with what was exposed by the content director of Canal Rural, Giovani Ferreira, during this week's 'AgroExport' newsletter. At the time, it was pointed out that the country has already shipped 3.36 million tons of chicken meat abroad this year -- for a foreign exchange revenue of $6.71 billion.
"From October to December last year, Brazil shipped just over 1 million tons of chicken meat. That is, in the house of 350,000 tons per month. A potential of 4.3 million tons very close to being reached", said Ferreira.
Avian influenza X conquers new markets
With avian influenza present in both Europe and the United States, Brazil can even gain new markets for the chicken meat trade. According to Iglesias, this achievement, in the case of the dispute with the Europeans, is also due to the "crisis of gas supply".
"We are coming in the European winter, and birds in general are extremely sensitive to temperature variations," commented the Crop & Market analyst. "The thermal adjustment inside the farm needs to be done very well so that there is no harm. With the gas supply crisis, it is very likely that this will have a problem of heating european farms," he continued. "It should affect production in Europe and bring more opportunities to Brazil," he concluded.
