MAPA inspectors will be able to certify fruits and vegetables for OECD countries

Ends on Thursday (20), in São Paulo, the training course of inspectors by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the application of international standards for fruits and vegetables. Brazil is part of the so-called OECD Fruit and Vegetable Scheme.
Brazil's participation in the OECD Scheme for Fruits and Vegetables began to be articulated in 2015 and now reaches the final stage, which is the training of inspectors.
From this course, they will be able to evaluate lots of these products and sign the certification, which should accelerate the export flow.
In addition to the theoretical part, the inspectors participated in practical activities, in which they could observe defects in fruits and know what is acceptable or not by the foreign market.
The training was organized by the Department of Inspection of Products of Plant Origin (Dipov) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa).
Forty-four federal agricultural tax auditors participating in the Inspection Services of Products of Plant Origin in the states and in the Units of International Agricultural Surveillance (Vigiagro).
OECD brings together 38 countries and is based in France
From there came representative Jose Brambila, who participated in the opening on Tuesday (18).
According to him, the main objective of the OECD Fruit and Vegetable Scheme is to facilitate trade by harmonising the implementation and interpretation of marketing standards. "Another objective is to facilitate the mutual recognition of inspections by participating countries," he said.
Dipov director Glauco Bertoldo also attended the opening; the general coordinator of the Quality of Plant Products of the department, Hugo Caruso; the deputy superintendent of the Map in São Paulo, Esequiel Liuson; and Ceagesp representative Gabriel Bitencourt.
Representatives Cyril Julius (South Africa) and Viera Baričičová (Slovakia) spoke about the standards for citrus fruits, grapes and apples, respectively. This Thursday morning, the group will visit Ceagesp, in the capital of São Paulo, to monitor the operation of the largest warehouse center in Latin America.
