FPBio wants suspension of hearing on biodiesel import

The Joint Parliamentary Front of Biodiesel (FPBio) filed a letter with the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) asking for the suspension of public consultation 22/2022, opened on September 20, and which aims to collect market suggestions on the release of biodiesel imports from 2023.
According to FPBio, the process is being conducted without the Regulatory Impact Assessment (AIR), "this is fundamental for the assessment of a measure with very serious impacts for the production and consumption of biodiesel in Brazil," FPBio said in a statement.
The Brazilian government ended regular biodiesel auctions since Petrobras, which has the system that made the events viable, left the sector.
Now, biodiesel can be marketed directly between producers and distributors and, starting next year, the government wants to allow 20% of the national demand for biofuel to be imported.
The measure could further aggravate the situation of biodiesel producers in the country, who complain about reducing the mixture to 10%, when, according to projections by previous governments, it should reach 14% this year and 15% in 2023.
The entity states that after the current consultation is canceled, it can be restarted "following the full regulatory rites," he said.
