Argentina stands out in tomato production

Not only tango or rivalries in football, lives the neighboring Argentina, there each person consumes 16 kilos of tomatoes annually, whether fresh, dry or industrialized. With several species, grown in a greenhouse or in a traditional way, tomatoes have vitamins and medicinal functions in combating some diseases.
Argentine tomato is grown on more than 17,000 hectares, 60% of this production is destined for fresh consumption and the rest goes to industry. The cultivation is carried out in Mendoza, San Juan Salta and Jujuy, Corrientes Formosas, Rio Negro and the capital Buenos Aires.
According to a report by the Institute for Rural Development (IDR), Mendoza along with San Juan account for 80% of the national tomato production. Producers use greenhouse cultivation, in 2022 more than 25,000 tons were exported. The main destinations of fresh tomatoes are: Paraguay, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.
