Minister Alexandre Silveira participated this Friday (31/3), virtually, in the opening of the Technical Seminar "Sustainable Mobility: Ethanol Talks Costa Rica". The event brings together authorities from Brazil and Costa Rica to discuss mobility, sustainability and reduction of gas emissions.
In his speech, Minister Alexandre Silveira stressed the importance of ethanol as a modern and sustainable option for mobility, in addition to the benefits it brings to the consumer. "We are very proud to talk about ethanol, one of our country's greatest achievements based on science and technology. In 2003, President Lula launched the first national biofuel vehicle, bringing new and economical alternatives to the consumer, contributing to environmental sustainability and projecting a new scenario for the Brazilian automotive industry," he said.
One of the agendas of the event is precisely to discuss the proposal to transfer the Brazilian experience in ethanol to other countries and identify where and how it would be applicable. "The Brazilian government is available to help our partners in Latin America develop their markets with the design of public policies for the inclusion of biofuels in the energy matrix," said the minister.
Alexandre Silveira explained that the history of ethanol production in the country is a great milestone achieved in the country. "Last week, we celebrated 20 years since the launch of the flex car in Brazil. A historical milestone, inaugurating a promising journey for the development of Brazil. Together with President Lula, who has always had this vision of the future, we will accelerate the process of decarbonization of our fuel matrix, expanding the use of biofuels," he said.
The minister again stated that energy transition is a priority and that his clear goals are to reduce emissions, add technology to vehicles and benefit drivers, passengers and the environment.
"The future of low-carbon sustainable mobility involves valuing biofuels and coordinating public policies that value the technological heritage that the country has in the production and use of bioenergy. The Ministry of Mines and Energy will develop actions that allow Brazil to be a protagonist in the growth of a green economy, based on clean energy, in a commitment of our government to work for the reindustrialization of the country," he concluded.
In addition to ethanol, the seminar also brought together experts to discuss energy security, environmental health and quality, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
