Clean energy sources supplied 1/5 of US and EU electricity by 2022

Despite the shift in attention generated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the escalation of investments in renewable energy in the United States (USA) and the European Union (EU) follow an upward trend.
Renewable energy production on both continents reached unprecedented levels in 2022: in the U.S. case, energy generated from hydroelectric, wind and solar sources supplied 13% of the country's total demand, covering 23% of the demand for electricity.
The data is from the Sustainable Energy in America 2023 Factbook report, a study produced by the coalition of the largest power generation companies in the country.
In the European context, renewable sources already supply 22% of the electricity used in the EU, according to the Ember think tank, maintained by several institutions linked to the generation of clean energy and preservation of the environment.
The group's global report also points out that the increase in the generation of clean energy from solar and wind sources means that 38% of the world's energy generation today can be considered a "clean" source.
The number approaches the total produced in the U.S. from non-fossil sources in 2022. When added to the generation of nuclear power in the country, which, in the opinion comes from a clean source, however, demands a large energy expenditure and emissions in its production, Americans can already claim that 40% of the country's power generation does not come from fossil fuels such as coal or oil, large greenhouse gas emissions and considered propellants of global warming.
By 2022, construction of renewable energy generation facilities in the US slowed slightly compared to previous years due to supply chain problems and inflation, reports Euronews Green.
Despite this, the sale of electrified cars is about to reach 1 million units in the country and there is optimism in the market with the law passed by the Biden administration allocated $369 billion for renewable energy and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, primarily through tax credits for all levels of the energy transition sector.
