Russian group to send free fertilizers to Africa

A Russian fertilizer producer plans to send a second humanitarian supply of fertilizer from a European Union port to Africa in March, the company said on Wednesday, this time to Kenya, after a previous shipment to Malawi in November. The group said it would donate more than 34,000 tons of its fertilizers currently stored in Latvia to Kenya.
Moscow has also repeatedly complained that its attempts to export fertilizers - with which many countries rely to increase agricultural production - are being thwarted by the West, even if it allows Ukraine to export a certain amount of grain from its blocked ports in the Black Sea. "The vessel to transport the fertilizer from Riga in Latvia to Mombasa, Kenya, will be chartered by the World Food Programme (WFP) and is expected to be loaded between March 5 and 15," the company said in a statement. "Around 200,000 tonnes of more than 260,000 tonnes of group fertilisers stranded in the EU are currently stored in Latvia."
