Chile's decision to recognize Rio Grande do Sul as an area free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination opens the market for meat produced in the state, Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) said on Monday at the launch of Expodireto Cotrijal in Porto Alegre.
"Now it is a task of commercial promotion so that we can bring here resources that move our economy," leite said.
The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) recognized Rio Grande do Sul in May 2021 as free of the disease without vaccination.
Chile's decision was published in the country's Official Gazette.
According to Chile, the recognition will apply as long as "the sanitary, prevention and control conditions implemented by the Federative Republic of Brazil are maintained."
The evaluation was confirmed in inspections by the Chilean authorities.
In 2022, Brazil exported approximately 71,858 tons of beef to Chile, with a revenue of US$ 360.1 million, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Refrigerators (Abrafrigo).
