The global biofuels industry may be experiencing a new wave of investment. At least that is what the primary data consolidated by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) and the Climate Policy Initivative (CPI) point out in the third edition of the Global Landscape of Renewable Energy Finance report, which was published on Wednesday, 22.

Updated every two years, the document seeks to map where investments in the renewable energy segment are going and identify trends by technology, region, sector and sources of financing.

According to the most recent edition of the report, the biofuels sector attracted a total of $12 billion in investments during the 2021-2022 biennium. This is by far the greatest value for the segment in the historical series elaborated by the technicians of the two entities. Between 2013 and 2020, the annual average was in the range of US$ 1.6 billion.
