Argentina records 11 confirmed cases and more than 100 suspected avian influenza

The Argentine government has confirmed that the country already has 11 confirmed cases of high pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in wild birds, six in Córdoba and one in Buenos Aires, Jujuy, Neuquén, Salta and Santa Fe. The National Health and Agri-Food Quality Service (Senasa) has received more than 100 notifications.
At a meeting of the country's Federal Council of Agriculture (CFA), which was attended by senasa president and vice president Diana Guillén and Rodolfo Acerbi, as well as other industry authorities in the country, The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Juan José Bahillo, stressed the importance of strengthening protection efforts with the provinces to prevent the disease from spreading.
He also highlighted the surveillance and control role played by Senasa and highlighted the work done in close collaboration with the agency.
