India has reached its fuel ethanol blend ing target of 10%, five months ahead of schedule. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in 2021 that India would achieve zero net emissions by 2070, with ethanol set to play a prominent role in reducing the country's dependence on fossil fuels.
India's transition to renewable energy includes a 20% ethanol blend target by 2025. U.S. ethanol industry groups congratulated in a statement released ahead of India's Auto Expo 2023, one of Asia's largest automotive fairs. More than 115,000 visitors are expected to be received in New Delhi. The US Grains Council, Growth Energy and Renewable Fuels Association will be at the fair.
"Ethanol presents an immediate solution to meet two of the world's greatest modern challenges: it represents an efficient alternative to gasoline without infrastructure change and is a preeminent solution to mitigate the impending climate crisis," the groups said.
"When adopted through clear and long-term public policies, ethanol can also contribute significantly to the reduction of air pollution in urban centers, leading to more positive results for public health.
