German minister wants end of biofuels of agricultural origin

An Environment Minister in Germany wants to end the use of biofuels of agricultural origin. The German minister, Steffi Lemke, said yesterday, 17, that will soon send proposals to the cabinet for the country to stop using biofuels of agricultural origin as a way to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.
According to a speech published on the Environment Ministry's website, published by Reuters, she said biofuels represent land consumption and loss of biological diversity.
"To replace only about 4% of the use of fossil fuel in German road transport, it is necessary a land space in Germany and abroad that represents about 20% of the German agricultural area. This is not a future-oriented thing," he said.
Germany's program to reduce greenhouse gases includes the use of a mixture of biofuels, such as biodiesel and ethanol, with fossil fuels to reduce emissions from road vehicles.
Oil companies have a goal of reducing greenhouse gases that can partially comply with biodiesel, often made from rapeseed oil or residual vegetable oils, and ethanol, which can be produced from grains or sugarcane.
She said she wants to step up the use of real biofuels produced from waste, waste and used edible oil. Lemke sees more potential to reduce the share of greenhouse gas emissions in road transport using waste-based biofuels.
"Therefore, we will, as soon as possible, propose to the cabinet the legal system for the withdrawal of biofuels based on food and animal feed," he added.
