The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, announced on Wednesday (18) the habilitation of 11 refrigeration plants for Indonesia, in addition to the possibility of overthrowing the suspension of export of three plants to China.
The statement was made in a meeting with the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Brazil has been in Brazil since 2019 without enabling new refrigeration plants for China.
The possibility of opening is for a cattle slaughter company and two poultry slaughter.
In the case of Indonesia, all new qualifications are for bovine plants.
It was also announced today the first market opening registered by Brazil in 2023, which is that of cotton in feather for Egypt.
At the end of the meeting, Fávaro stressed that these achievements are the sign of the return of Brazil's credibility in the international market.
Cotton
The Egyptian government, through the official organ of Plant Quarantine, opened the market for Cotton in Pluma do Brasil, defining the phytosanitary requirements for the import of the product. This was the first market opening recorded by Brazil in 2023.
Negotiations for market opening began in 2006 and intensified from 2020 on, finally resulting in market opening.
According to the minister, this market opening represents the recognition of the quality of the Brazilian product.
Egypt imports approximately 120,000 tons of feathered cotton annually, with the largest suppliers being Greece, Burkina Faso, Benin and Sudan.
Brazil can benefit from a window of opportunity between July and September, as Greek exports do not start until October. It is estimated that Brazil has the potential to meet, at first, 20-25% of Egyptian demand.
