Trade between Brazil and the United States reached about US$ 88.7 billion and hit a record, according to Amcham Brazil. An unprecedented analysis by Amcham's Brazil-U.S. Trade Monitor indicates that the figure exceeded the previous record set in 2021 by US$18.2 billion (25.8%) .
The data point to the occurrence of record values in Brazilian exports and imports in relation to the United States, with growth in most of the most important products on the agenda. "The unprecedented results in all the main indicators of bilateral trade reveal the moment of strong dynamism of economic relations between the two countries, as well as the increased relevance of the United States to Brazilian foreign trade," says Abrão Neto, new CEO of Amcham Brasil, an entity that brings together about 4,000 companies.
"For 2023, we have projected some stability in bilateral flows, with values close to last year's record. There are important opportunities for both countries, such as in the green economy and supply chains. However, it will be essential to follow the evolution of the global economic and geopolitical scenario, which remains fickle and may change these expectations", adds Abrão Neto.
In 2022, Brazilian imports of U.S. origin reached a record $51.3 billion, an increase of 30.3% over the previous year. The average price increase of 35.6% largely explains this growth, especially for fertilizers, fuels and coal. Despite the historical value of the bilateral current, Brazil has also accumulated an unprecedented negative balance of US$ 13.9 billion, almost 70% higher than in 2021.
