Sweden to produce smart tomatoes
sexta-feira, dezembro 02, 2022
Sweden plans to increase its biogas production capacity. This means that more carbon dioxide will be produced as a by-product. Because of this, there is a great interest in carbon dioxide for large-scale greenhouse cultivation. By adding carbon dioxide to greenhouses, growth can be increased, including in tomatoes.
Packaged industrial gas can meet a variety of applications, for example in food growth and processing, or in refrigerant bubbles. This type of CO2 is more specifically known as biogenic carbon dioxide in the industry. It is released when the biological material is burned or decomposes.
"Carbon dioxide in liquid form can be easily transported by tanker truck and used, for example, in greenhouses, the food industry and the process industry," says Anna Lövsén, manager of tekniska verken's Biogas business area.
In relation to use in greenhouses, this already happens on a large scale in the Netherlands, but usually with fossil carbon dioxide. In this way, possibilities are opened for the tomato market, cultivated intelligently for the climate. The plan is for the project to go live in 2024.
