Australia develops new wheat variety
quarta-feira, novembro 16, 2022
Australia is one of the largest wheat producers in the world, for the 2022/23 harvest are forecast, a production of about 35 million tons of cereal. The country broke the record of more than 36 million tons in the 2021/22 harvest. A new variety of wheat was recently developed in the country, Willaura.
The person responsible for developing the new variety is Grain Technologies (AGT). It was designed for rainy environments in the south of the country. The difference is in grinding quality and slower maturation. Willaura was officially launched on the Southern Farming Systems Agrifocus field day held in Streatham by wheat bestist AGT Britt Kalmeier.
"Willaura is a fantastic variety choice for an environment like Streatham, with its compact canopy and good straw strength, providing greater stability compared to some other varieties under the very high yield potential we see here," Kalmeier said.
The new variety, named after the rural town in western Victoria, was specifically developed to thrive in the longer-season growing regions traditionally dominated by red grain food quality winter varieties.
