'New territories' may expand Russia's grain production

Russia's grain harvest is expected to grow by about 5 million tons per year. The Russian government's expectation was announced this week by Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev. According to him, the elevation will take place thanks to the incorporation of four Ukrainian territories.
"Considering the arable land that exists there, I believe that at least 5 million tons of grain will be added to the Russian savings box," Patrushev said. In this sense, he believes that other actions in the rural environment will be driven. "I also think we're going to get other cultures," he said.
The Russian government has confirmed that President Vladimir Putin has signed laws to annex four regions that, in the eyes of the UN and the recognition of most countries, still belong to Ukraine: Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Together, these areas account for 18 percent of Ukrainian territory, Reuters reports.
Grains amid war between Russia and Ukraine
In addition to agricultural production, such as grain, the regions now contested by Russia are responsible for Ukraine's access to the Azove Sea (north of the Black Sea). It is in this area that is located, for example, the Port of Mariupol, an important point for the flow of production from Eastern Europe.
Before the war with Russia, which began in February this year, Ukraine even embarked more than 6 million tons of grain a month abroad. Since the resumption of exports, through a UN-led agreement in July, the country has shipped about 5.3 million tons.
