terça-feira, outubro 04, 2022
In an unprecedented partnership in Brazil, Brazilian carbon holding company Future Carbon Group and Columbia University in the USA have teamed up to promote climate and carbon education. The objective of the union is to guide audiences who have decision-making power, such as executives and ESG professionals, through dialogue with actors in the sector. On October 10, 17 and 24, at 6:00 p.m., the first round of debates will be held, with the theme "Brazil's Role in Climate Governance". The panel will be held online and will have simultaneous translation from English to Portuguese. Registration is free and can be made at this link.
The virtual meetings, which were prepared based on the academic excellence of Columbia Climate School and the technical experience and knowledge of the Brazilian context of the Future Carbon Group, will be mediated by Marina Cançado, co-CEO of Future Carbon. "The realization of this series of debates is the first step in the construction of a broader and longer-lasting partnership, which, through climate education, will support the insertion of risks and opportunities related to the theme in decision-making," Marina said.
The Columbia center will include Mélody Braun, a member of the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, Nora Mardirossian, a researcher at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, and Paul DeNoon, an advisor to the Columbia Climate School.
On The 10th, the theme of the discussions will be the Paris Agreement and the commitments made in 2015 in the French city — such as increasing global efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C and prevent it from exceeding 2°C by the end of the century —Brazil's crucial position in climate negotiations and expectations for COP27, which will be held in November in Egypt.
At the second meeting, on 17/10, the debate saw the turn around the goals of climate neutrality and the role of non-state actors, such as companies and civil society, in the movement of decarbonization of the economy.
On 10/24, during the third and final module of this first cycle, the speakers will analyze the carbon credit markets, both globally and In Brazil, focusing on the current state of the segment, our regulatory landscape and trends that should leverage the potential of the voluntary market in Brazil.
The initiative is supported by Samambaia Filanthropias, a non-profit organization that seeks to promote freedoms and sustainable economic prosperity in Brazil.
