U.S. may have rule for three-year biofuel blend mandates
terça-feira, setembro 06, 2022
The Joe Biden administration could announce this year a rule detailing the annual biofuel blending mandates for the refining industry for a period of three years, rather than just one. The information was released by Reuters by sources familiar with the discussions.
The move to a multi-year goal would aim to provide long-term security for the refining and biofuels industries, which are dealing with uncertainties almost constantly since the United States Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) began more than a decade ago.
"They are trying to put together a proposal for 2023, 2024 and 2025, where, once the proposals are put together, they do not need to go back and do not need to change and modify the volumes," said one of the sources, who requested anonymity to speak openly about the discussions.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been set to propose regulations for mandates from 2023 through November 16, according to a legal document in July. The EPA, which administers the RFS, declined to respond to the Reuters report.
