Green compost offers productivity-improving benefits
quinta-feira, setembro 22, 2022
Have you ever heard of green fertilization? Simpler than it sounds, and as its name says, green fertilizers are plants used to improve the physical, chemical and biological conditions of the soil. The types and benefits are themes of the #EducaçãonoCampo this Wednesday (21).
Green fertilization contributes to the thermal variation of the soil, helping in the temperature and decompaction of the soil, recycles nutrients, provides considerable amount of nitrogen, acts in pest control, especially nematode, also reduces the appearance of weeds, in addition to protecting the soil avoiding erosion.
"This is a worthwhile investment. In addition to the economic gain by reducing the need for the use of chemicals, fertilization considerably improves soil quality, making the activity more sustainable", explains Senar/MS instructor Arnaldo Mongelo.
An example of green compost are legumes, such as crotalaria, pork beans, cowpea and guandu. These are some of the plant varieties that are associated with nitrogen fixation of air in the soil.
These species have microorganisms that increase the absorption of water and nutrients by the roots, an incorporation that increases soil fertility.
With the increase in organic matter, the technique also controls erosion, since it provides cover and reduces soil exposure to strong winds and rains, for example, and helps in reducing water in surface layers.
The course 'Production of Organic Fertilizers' is offered free of charge by Senar Mato Grosso do Sul with a 24-hour workload. The next training agendas take place in Santa Rita do Pardo, from September 27 to 29, in Chapadão do Sul, from 13 to 15 October, and in Itaquiraí, between 10 and 12 November.
