WORLD: climate has been compromising corn, sunflower and soybeans
quinta-feira, agosto 11, 2022
The rain in northern and northeastern Europe contrasted sharply with the extreme heat and drought in the cultivation areas of the west and south of the old continent. Moderate to heavy rainfall (10-25 mm, locally more) over Scandinavia, as well as the central and northern part of England and Germany improved soil moisture for filling summer crops (mid-year), as well as for winter sowing (end of year).
Meanwhile, a large range of moderate to heavy rainfall (10-95 mm) in northeastern Europe improved breeding prospects to fill summer crops and increased moisture reserves for planting rapeseed in winter (seeds used primarily for oil production).
On the other hand, heat and drought continue to hamper the filling of corn, sunflower and soybeans in Spain, France, Italy, Hungary and the Danube River valley. The heat was more intense throughout Spain, where daytime readings approached or reached 40°C (locally up to 43°C).
Daytime temperatures well above 30°C were observed from France to central Germany and western Poland, with a second extreme heat range (35-40°C) from the Po River Valley in Italy to eastern Hungary and the western Balkans. Very high temperatures have further reduced the yield outlook for the filling of summer crops that have already faced exceptional droughts and record heat.
In addition, declining harvest conditions in the Danube River valley in southeastern Europe were juxtacityd with moderate to heavy rainfall (10-75 mm) on the highest terrain in central and northeastern Romania, which brought much-needed relief from the drought, but little impacted the country's summer crop.
