FAPESP and JST will support biotechnology and bioenergy projects

FAPESP Agency – FAPESP and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) have launched calls for proposals to support collaborative projects developed by researchers based in the State of São Paulo and Japan, aimed at the development of bioenergetic technologies and the use of biotechnology to increase food production.
FAPESP and JST will select proposals submitted in the following subtopics in the areas of Biotechnology and Bioenergy: 1) Application of biotechnology to increase the efficiency of the transfer of biomass to energy or value-added materials; (2) application of biotechnology for crop breeding; and 3) Genetic resources/microbiology for biotechnological application in food and bioenergetic crops.
In Japan, the call is open to any researcher who is conducting research at a Japanese research institution, regardless of nationality. In the State of São Paulo, researchers responsible for ongoing projects in the Lines Of Regular Research Assistance and Young Researcher may submit, provided that they presented justification for the concomitance of projects in the submission, for analysis of the feasibility of concurrency of the two projects.
The expected duration of the projects selected in the call to be supported by FAPESP is up to three years, with an annual value of R$ 150,000, totaling R$ 450,000 for the total period of the project.
Proposals will be received by 20 September 2022.
