Embraer and Raízen close partnership for sustainable fuel production
terça-feira, julho 19, 2022
Embraer and energy company Raízen signed on Sunday (17) a letter of intent with the commitment of companies to stimulate the development of the sustainable aviation fuel production ecosystem (SAF).
Among the goals set, is to make Embraer the first aircraft manufacturer to consume SAF that can be distributed by Raízen, a global reference in bioenergy. The use of the technology is part of Embraer's strategy of neutralizing the carbon footprint of its operations by 2040, since more than 60% of emissions in the company's operations stem from the use of aviation kerosene in tests and production flights.
Emission reduction
"THE SAF plays a key role in reducing aviation emissions in the short and medium term. In view of this, this agreement aims to stimulate the growth and sustainability of the value chain as a whole," says Carlos Alberto Griner, Embraer's Vice President of People, ESG and Communication, in a statement issued on Sunday.
"ESG is one of the pillars of our strategic plan and we are looking for every opportunity to accelerate the reduction of our carbon emissions," he adds.
Sugarcane ethanol
"As an integrated energy company, Raízen has challenging goals when it intends to expand its renewable s$ to the market by 80% and make this increase as efficiently as possible in our production process and in helping to reduce the impact of our customers. As the largest producers of sugarcane ethanol in the world, it is natural to be looking at a possible supply of SAF," says Antonio Cardoso, Vice President of Marketing and Services at Raízen.
Fuel consumption target
The expectation is that Raízen will contribute to Embraer reaching the goal of having SAF mixtures representing 100% of its fuel consumption in Brazil by 2030.
"The partnership with Raízen demonstrates our pioneering in the theme and symbolizes the diverse opportunities for strategic partnerships that can generate new business possibilities in the area of sustainable fuels for our company and the air transport industry as a whole," says Roberto Chaves, Embraer's global procurement director.
