The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), Marcos Montes, said on Tuesday (7) that technological innovation is fundamental to ensure food security and sustainability in agricultural production. Speaking during the One Agro event in Campinas (SP), he said that Brazil can give the answers that the world needs to ensure the food production needed for the world population.

According to him, the Map currently works with three main axes: food security, sustainability and innovation. "These three axes make sure that we will give this answer to the world. Technological innovation is the thread that connects food security and sustainability. If there wasn't this breakthrough we had, we probably wouldn't have that certainty that we're going to move forward," Montes said.

At the event, the minister also said that the Harvest Plan 2022/2023 should be quite robust. "It's not just brazil's crop plan, it's a World Crop Plan, because the whole world needs this consistent and robust plan." The guidelines of the current Safra Plan are being elaborated by the Map, together with the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bank. The document defines the amount of resources that will be allocated with equalized interest to support national agricultural production.

However, in the minister's assessment, Brazil is not "in full" need to do to meet the demands of the international agribusiness community related to environmental and social issues, citing the european union's demands.

"The European Union has created some barriers that need to be removed, but we are not in the fullness of what needs to be done. Land regularization is very important; we gave more than 345,000 titles to producers," he said.

The minister also mentioned the work of the portfolio to facilitate and develop instruments for the provision of private credit. Montes also reported that the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), has been very "receptive" to the demands of the folder to vote on projects of interest to the sector.
