A partnership between the National Industrial Learning Service (Senai) and the Technical Cooperation Agency of Germany will invest 2.6 million euros (US$14 million) by 2023 in training professionals to produce green hydrogen in Brazil. The amount will be allocated to the infrastructure and the purchase of equipment for the production of fuel.

The agreement, signed on Friday (29), will have 20 months of duration and also intends to develop actions in the area of green hydrogen technology. It is planned to install a center of excellence in Natal (RN) and six regional training centers in the states of Ceará, Bahia, Paraná, São Paulo and Santa Catarina.

The investment is part of GIZ's H2 Brasil project, a partnership between the governments of Brazil and Germany to support the expansion of the green hydrogen market and its derivatives in the country.

Global policies are being implemented to lower the costs of producing, distributing and applying green hydrogen. In 2020, the German government adopted the National Hydrogen Strategy, which has among its strategies the construction of international partnerships for production and export.

Senai and the CTG Brasil energy industry will develop projects focused on green hydrogen. In all, the "Green Hydrogen Strategic Mission" received 31 applications, of which three projects were selected. The lead time for the selected projects is up to 48 months from the contract signing.

Green hydrogen

Hydrogen is a zero carbon fuel, obtained through electrolysis, a chemical process in which an electrical current stifhes hydrogen from the oxygen that exists in water. Gas is called green hydrogen when electricity comes from renewable sources such as hydroelectric, wind and solar. One of Brazil's strengths is precisely the renewable matrix, so that the country can become a fuel exporter in a few years.
