segunda-feira, março 14, 2022
Canada authorized the start of imports of beef and pork in natura from Brazil. The announcement was made on Monday (14) by the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, who is traveling to Canada. As a score, Brazil has surpassed the mark of 200 new foreign markets for agricultural products opened since the beginning of 2019.
Minister Tereza Cristina celebrated the achievement. "This market opening makes us exceed the 200 markets stipulated by me in the Ministry of Agriculture and is also very good news for Brazilian refrigerators that can employ and bring income to the interior of our country," he said as he left the meeting with the Canadian Deputy Minister.
The Secretary of Commerce and International Relations of the Map, Orlando Leite Ribeiro explains that, taking into account the market share of Brazil for these two products it is possible to estimate exports of around US$ 150 million per year. "Bearing in mind that Canada has no import tax for pigs, this is a market that can go beyond the Brazilian market share. In the case of beef, there is a rate of about 26.5% import, but we can have access to that market via a share of the OMC 76,400 tonnes, with a tariff of 0%".
Tereza Cristina met today with Canada's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Paul Samson. At the meeting, topics such as sustainability and cooperation between the two countries in the area of research and technology were discussed. Tereza Cristina pointed out that Brazil and Canada are leaders committed to a safe, science-based and sustainable agriculture and recalled Brazil's actions during the UN Food Systems Summit and COP26.
ABPA celebrates pork market
The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) celebrated the announcement made by the Minister of Agriculture. In a statement, the entity recalled that the opening is valid for establishments under federal inspection located in Santa Catarina – at the time of the initial application, the state was the only one recognized as free of aphthous without vaccination, which is a criterion established by the Canadian authorities.
"In addition to generating more currency for the national pig production – which has been facing severe difficulties due to the high production costs – the health recognition of the Canadian authorities will strengthen the existing seals to the quality and sanity of the Brazilian product."
Fertiliser
On the trip to Ottawa, meetings are planned with presidents of potassium producing and exporting companies installed in the country to discuss the possibility of increasing potassium exports to Brazil.
Today the minister will have meetings with the presidents of gensource, nutrien, canpotex and fertilizer canada. Yesterday (13), Tereza Cristina met with the board of Brazil Potash, a private, private Brazilian company, controlled by Brazilian and foreign investors. She highlighted Brazil's dependence on fertilizer imports and the need to expand imports at this time.
"In order for Brazil to continue increasing its food supply and to contribute to the food security of Brazil and the world, we will need adequate supplies of this insum. This not only means ensuring current levels of purchases, but expanding them."
