What do you do with the food peel? In your home, for example, most of the time it is discarded in the trash. Sure? In addition to all these benefits.  A group of scientists have discovered another use for shells, they can be used to extract rare earths from waste.

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States were surprised to extract rare earth elements from electronic waste. Neodymium microparticles were linked in solutions and microparticles of corn ears, processed, cotton and wood residues and tomato peels. 

Speaking of tomatoes, the vegetable is native to South America and one of the main sources of lycopene, a substance that fights various diseases. The scientists' goal was to transform waste into micro or nano-sized particles. The experiment used crushed tomato peels, corn cobs, wood pulp and cotton paper wet in water. All these materials have been decomposed. The next step for scholars will be to test the technology at an industrial waste treatment plant.
