The tomato can be used in salads, served pure, cooked, in sauces and extracts, it serves even to make ration. Everything is taken advantage of it: pulp, bark, seed. Among its benefits we can highlight the improvement of vision, strengthening of bones, because of vitamin D, in addition to preventing cancer. In addition to all this, Portuguese researchers want to give new service to the tomato. Have you ever wondered if the plastic film you use to put in the uncapped pot, with the leftover food that goes into the fridge, was made of tomatoes? Or his bark? That's already possible. 

Scholars from the Institute of Experimental Biology and Technology, the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, in recent research on tomatoes, have come to the conclusion that it is possible to use it in the manufacture of plastic, specifically the film or film adherent.

Also known as plastic film, it is serves to pack food scraps and is used in aesthetic procedures. The product made with tomato skin can be a promising solution to eliminate thousands of tons of plastic, since it is biodegradable. The project in the testing phase, still awaits investors.
