Under corn export protocol, China requires that plant health requirements for grain exports to the Asian country must be free of live insects and 18 quarennary pests of concern, according to a document obtained by Broadcast Agro.
The Ministry of Agriculture presented the export protocols of corn, soybean protein, soybean meal and citrus pulp to representatives of the grain sector at a meeting on Friday (5). The ministry will register exporters and port warehouses wishing to export corn to China, thereby ensuring quarantine conditions within Chinese standards.
The protocol details that the ministry will conduct surveillance during corn production to avoid one of the pests listed in the document, Peronosclerospora sorghi. The ministry will also put in place integrated management system measures and monitor the application by cereal exporting companies to China to minimize the occurrence of pests.
Thus, according to the document, the ministry will control the companies that export corn to the Asian country and establish controls to be carried out by them in the cleaning steps, in the process of storage and transport of corn. Apart from the follow-up, the agency will do the quarantine inspection on the corn shipment before export.
The ministry shall issue the plant health certificate and declaration of compliance with the requirements in the Protocol of Plant Health Requirements for Export of Corn from Brazil to China. The Brazilian product will also be subject to phytosanitary inspection at Chinese entry points.
