Currently, negotiations to unlock Ukraine's ports for exports are in the final stages. The result depends only on Russia's position, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview with El País.
"We are in the final stage. Now it all depends on Russia. If they really want this, grain exports will resume soon. If they use it to continue their hunger games, they will continue to insist on new negotiations," he said.
Kuleba emphasized that Russia is not interested in exporting grain from Ukraine.
"I can only see one possible reason: Russia would show the countries of Africa and Asia that it is willing to save them from food shortages. However, Russia is not interested in exporting Ukraine because they understand that this will make us stronger," Kuleba said.
Military delegations from Russia, Ukraine and Turkey are meeting with UN officials in Istanbul on Wednesday (13) to talk about a possible agreement to resume exports.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 raised global prices for grains, edible oils, fuels and fertilizers, sparking a global food crisis.
The war delayed exports, leaving dozens of ships docked and more than 20 million tons of grain trapped in Odesa silos. The new crop is at risk due to a lack of space in Ukraine's warehouses.
