The Nature ID app, available for Android and iPhone (iOS), recognizes and identifies more than 10,000 plant species through photos. The app also gathers several information that help the user keep the plant healthy, such as description of the species, frequency of water, need for light and fertilizer. Another feature present in the platform is the diagnosis, which indicates the possible problems of the plant and explains how to treat.
The tool can be useful for those who like to walk outdoors to connect with nature or even for those who grow at home. In the following tutorial, learn how to use the NatureID app to identify plants and understand how to take care of each species. In the example, the procedure was performed on an Android and the available language was English.
How to use NatureID to identify plant by photos
- Open the NatureID app, and on the home screen, tap the profile icon in the upper-left corner to log in to the platform. To do this, the user has two options: use the Facebook credentials or that of your Google account;
- In the example, TechTudo chose to sign in with Facebook. To proceed, go to "Continue as (your name)". Once that's done, tap the back arrow in the upper left corner;
- With login done, click "Identify". Then frame the plan that you want to identify among the white lines that appear in the camera image. Then tap the white ball to make the catch;
- The app will then identify in seconds the name of your plant and gather a tab with various information about the species. Drag your finger up to lower the screen and view more content pertaining to the plan. Details include plant toxicity, scientific and popular names, origin and others;
- By tapping the arrows on the side, you can check out plant care tips. Tap "Watering", for example, to view the watering recommendation. Just note that the seasons do not follow the order of Brazil. In this case, use the information according to the station of the moment. Tap the arrow to return to the previous screen;
- To add the identified plant to a playlist, tap "Add to My Plants" at the bottom of the screen. Then select whether it is a plant that stays indoor (indoor) or outside (outdoor);
- The app will direct you to the tab that lets you create reminders about plant care, such as time to water, sunbathe, or use fertilizer. To do this, tap one of the options and customize the reminder including the frequency and time you want. Then go to the arrow in the right corner of the screen to confirm the action;
- Once that's done, scroll down to check your plant's diagnosis (whether it's healthy or not), among other additional information. Then tap the arrow back;
- Tap "Explore" from the bottom menu if you want to check out care tips and more plant information in general. Another app option, the "Diagnose" button indicates possible problems your plant may have;
- After accessing the "Diagnose" tool, go to "Start Diagnosing" and point the camera at the part of the plant you want to scan. Tap the white ball to continue;
- In the free version, you must watch an ad in order to receive the diagnosis. Therefore, tap "Watch a video to get a free plant health check" and, after the video is over, tap "Reward awarded" to view the plant analysis;
- Tap on one of the possible issues identified to view more information about it and what precautions to take.
