The global company in the segment of research and registration of agricultural products, the French company Staphyt, eventually acquired the services division of Brazilian company Promip. With the business, Staphyt enters the local market for agronomic research & development services for third parties. Promip, on the other hand, will focus on the production and distribution of organic agricultural pesticides, the required in the so-called integrated pest management in agriculture (MIP).
Luiz Antonio José, Staphyt's business director for Brazil and Latin America, points out that the third-party research & development market is in the company's DNA. "Staphyt is europe's largest and most successful field and laboratory testing company, with more than 7,000 studies delivered annually in the areas of plant protection, nutrition and improvement," he says. "The acquisition of Promip Serviços will allow us to extend this experience to the main agricultural states of Brazil."
Founder and CEO of Promip, agronomist Marcelo Poletti points out that the transaction closes the company's spin-off process, planned about two years ago, aiming to expand the brazilian brand's participation in the market of agricultural pesticides activated by microbiological agents (viruses, bacteria and fungi) and macrobiologicalagents (mites, insects and nematodes). "The immediate expectation is to expand the biomanufacturing capacity of promip's portfolio, in addition to allocating investments to technology diversification."
Founded in France in 1989, Staphyt is a research & development and regulatory affairs consulting organization.
