Physiological insecticide is alternative against cigarrinha

Albaugh announced the expansion of its portfolio of solutions for the sugar-energy sector, by producing the insecticide Porcel 100 EC (piriproxifem), aimed at controlling the root cigarrinha (Marhanarva fimbriolata) of sugarcane.
The product, which was incorporated into Albaugh's portfolio with the acquisition of Rotam Brasil, is described as a selective, physiological insecticide, with action in the larval development phase of insects, mainly on eggs and nymphs of the pest.
According to the manufacturer, this mode of action prevents young insects from snare from "inurging" and completing their cycle. The correct application of the insecticide also causes the females of the pest to have reduced the egg laying and their fertility.
Albaugh adds that Porcel 100 EC is fully suitable for the treatment of sugarcane plantations by air thanks to the composition of the product, more friendly, selective to pollinators, Cotesia flavipes and natural enemies of sugarcane pests.
For the commercial manager of the company's Citros-Cana Regional, biologist and plant protection specialist, Marcelo Pires Pereira, "Porcel 100 EC gains more relevance in companies in the sugar and sugar industry and sugarcane supply properties, which generally occupy large areas. With air application, we transfer important benefits in convenience, flexibility in planning, time savings and cost savings."
Experts reiterate that the root cicada is a sucking pest with high potential to bring damage to sugarcane. Insect infestations transfer losses, in productivity, of the order of 10% to 60%.
"In view of the risks linked to the cicada, the Porcel 100 EC solution delivers highly favorable control and cost-benefit effectiveness in protecting the crop," adds Pires Pereira.
