Meat produced in Pampa wins identification seal

The meat of animals raised in the Pampa gaucho is already marketed with identification seal of origin. Recognized by the National Institute of Industrial Property (Inpi), the collective brand Apropampa, from the Association of Meat Producers of Pampa Gaucho, values meat products from the biome, facilitating their recognition in the market by consumers.
According to the president of the entity, Custódio Magalhães, the combination between the variety of natural and cultivated pastures, the climate, the taurine and synthetic breeds created and the management used are the great differentials that form the uniqueness of pampa meat. Thus, to have the seal, all stages of production must take place in the biome, only with the possibility of slaughtering outside, but still within Rio Grande do Sul.
"It's 100% Pampa. Animals must be born and raised in the region. We want to communicate with the consumer. So that he can see the seal and recognize what's behind it," says Magellan.
History behind the flesh
Embrapa, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) and the government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul were partners of Apropampa in the process that resulted in the collective brand. According to Danilo Sant'Anna, researcher at Embrapa Pecuária Sul (RS), in addition to differentiating meat, the goal of the distinction is to tell the whole story and meaning that exists behind the final product.
"The Pampa is a naturally rural environment, diverse and very conducive to pastoral livestock activity. And the figure of the gaucho, as well as its culture and tradition, was shaped by this environment and this vocation for livestock. We don't de-kill to produce, we have the right environment, and Apropampa wants to communicate this to its consumers," he says.
According to him, working to promote good production, constancy and quality offered to consumers is a necessity. "Hence another of the axes of work between Embrapa and the Association. Making this partnership with Embrapa qualifies production and promotes product differentiation, enabling increased income throughout the chain," says Sant'Anna.
According to him, Embrapa participated in the entire process that resulted in the conquest of the seal, from support to the formation of Apropampa to technical studies of delimitation of the geographical area to identify the origin of meat. The company is also a member of the technical regulatory board of the association, in addition to supporting the promotion of the meat chain and in negotiation with new refrigerators interested in valuing the protein stemming from Pampa.
