Green Plains Inc, a major player in the U.S. bioethanol industry, said its efforts in technology and product innovation have led to DDGS, a byproduct of biofuel production, with protein concentrations greater than 60 percent in its biorefinery. Nebraska, USA.
The advance was achieved through a large-scale production change in all plant production and fermentation processes. Modifications to the test also resulted in a 40% increase in the yield of low-carbon corn oil, further expanding the company's ability to provide a strategic raw material for the rapidly growing biodiesel and renewable diesel markets.
"We believe that for the first time in history, a dry grinding biorefinery was able to achieve protein concentrations greater than 60%, which can dramatically improve the economy of a biorefinery," said Todd Becker, President and CEO of Green.
"This is a truly revolutionary event because we believe that there is no other technology on this commercial scale that can provide 60% or more of fermented protein products that can radically transform the way we feed the world. As we embark on our journey to transform our facilities into the biorefineries of the future, we anticipate achieving higher levels of protein over time, but this test is rapidly exceeding our expectations. Our speed of innovation will continue to accelerate as we work together with our customers to deliver even more value," he concludes.
