Planning, investment and concrete actions of the State Government, in the area of animal health surveillance, ensured Mato Grosso do Sul to achieve the status of an area free of foot-and-mouth disease, without vaccination. According to the latest survey of the PNEFA (National Surveillance Program for Foot-and-Mouth Disease), the Ministry of Agriculture, the immunization campaign of the South Mato Grosso cattle herd this year will be the last before the certification of national and international health authorities.
The National Secretary of Agricultural Defense, José Guilherme Leal, said that the merits of the achievement should be shared between the State Government and producers. For Governor Reinaldo Azambuja the greatest reflection is the increase in the competitiveness of our agricultural products.
The secretary of Semagro, Jaime Verruck highlighted the work of supervision and prevention, carried out through Iagro, which according to him is in another level, and also the benefits for the producer.
Mato Grosso do Sul is part of Block IV in the Strategic Plan 2017-2026 of the PNEFA, which foresees the total withdrawal of vaccination in the country by 2023. Six other states of Block IV of the PNEFA (DF, ES, GO, MG, MT, TO) are also expected to carry out, in November 2022, their last immunization campaigns against foot-and-mouth. The states of Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Sergipe and São Paulo, so far, have not yet reached the necessary indicators for vaccination withdrawal.
