Faced with the energy emergency caused by the war between Ukraine and Russia, which has global consequences and financial complications and due to the very high demand that our country has to import diesel, the chambers of biofuel producing companies in Argentina propose a solution to the Government: to increase the cutting of fuels that are marketed in the country to replace imported diesel with domestic biodiesel.

According to the chambers, in recent years, due to different circumstances, the production units have worked below their industrial capacities and, in this situation, offer a solution that has several advantages, since it replaces the diesel oil imported by biodiesel produced nationally, avoids the outflow of foreign currency to pay for imports, generates a reactivation in a national industrial sector,   promotes the hiring of direct staff and benefits indirectly several sectors involved in the activity and meets the environmental commitments signed by our country for the lower carbon emissions produced by biodiesel in relation to diesel.

Last year, the Legislature sanctioned an official proposal to create a new regulatory framework for biofuels that halved the minimum cut in biodiesel compared to the mandate established by Law 26,093 and other complementary regulations, leaving a high idle capacity of the sector. That same year, the national production of soybean-derived biofuel recorded its lowest production since 2010, when the regulation to cut fossil fuels with biofuels.
