Stop the Overuse Of Antibiotics On Farm Animals!
segunda-feira, junho 10, 2019
If we don't act, by 2050, 10 million Americans could die every year from antibiotic-resistant infections. To protect our health, we must urge the FDA to place stricter regulations on antibiotics.
Why this matters
"My husband died from sepsis caused by antibiotic-resistant E. coli. The practice of misusing antibiotics on farms will mean that many more will die the same painful, preventable death." -- SierraRise supporter Barbara B., Sacramento, CA
The overuse of antibiotics is creating a public health crisis. One in three of the antibiotics that people rely on to treat infections don't have a legal duration limit for use on livestock, so they're often given to animals for an extended period of time.
Treating this issue has a human and financial toll--an estimated 23,000 people die annually in the United States from antibiotic-resistance--and it's costing our healthcare system billions.
We must speak up to protect these life-saving drugs. Tell the FDA to mandate that antibiotics are only given to livestock for their intended purpose -- the treatment of infections -- and that they all have a specific time limit for use.
